Bitumen Penetration Grade
ASTM Standard – Bitumen 80/100
Penetration value test on bitumen is a measure of hardness or consistency of bituminous material. A 80/100 grade bitumen indicates that its penetration value lies between 80 & 100. Penetration value is the vertical distance traversed or penetrated by the point of a standard needle into the bituminous material under specific conditions of load, time and temperature. This distance is measured in one tenths of a millimetre. Penetration test is used for evaluating consistency of bitumen. It is not regarded as suitable for use in connection with the testing of road tar because of the high surface tension exhibited by these materials.
Penetration Graded Bitumen 80/100 is high-quality asphalt, derived from crude petroleum refining. It is dark in colour and possesses waterproofing and adhesive properties. It is substantially non-volatile and softens gradually when heated.
Cutback RC 250
Rapid Curing 250 RC250 a combination of penetration grade asphalt cement and a diluent or cutter highly rapid in its volatility making it easier to apply.
Cutback MC 800
Rapid Curing 800 MC800 a combination of penetration grade asphalt cement and a diluent or cutter highly rapid in its volatility making it easier to apply.
Uses
Bitumen 80/100 is commonly used to produce hot mix asphalt for the base and wearing courses. a thinner pavement design Usage: The main common usage of bitumen 80/100 is being used in the manufacturing of hot mix asphalt for the base and wearing courses. Due to its high level of viscosity, it enables a thinner pavement engineering design and an overall 30 percent reduction in the amount of asphalt being applied.
Penetration test is a commonly adopted test on bitumen to grade the material in terms of its hardness. A 80/100 grade bitumen indicates that its penetration value lies between 80 & 100. Grading of bitumen helps to assess its suitability in different climatic conditions and types of construction. This Bitumen 80/100 also used of production of Emulsion.
